What Does the NCLEX Stand For?

The NCLEX stands for National Council Licensure Examination. It is a standardized test used to assess the competency of individuals seeking to become licensed as registered nurses (RNs) or licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) in the United States.

What is the Purpose of the NCLEX?

The NCLEX has but one purpose. To determine if you have the minimum level of knowledge needed to safely start practicing as an entry-level nurse.

What Does NGN Stand For?

NGN, or Next Generation NCLEX, is a revision of the NCLEX exam that is set to take effect in April 2023. It will feature 10% of new, long-form questions that test a nursing graduate's clinical reasoning skills. These new questions include Extended Multiple Response, Extended Drag and Drop, Cloze, Enhanced Hot Spot, and Matrix/Grid.
